DIY REPAIR
SEWING ON A BUTTON
WHAT DO I NEED?
A suitable button
Sewing needle
Sewing thread
Fabric scissors
Thimble (if needed)
Spare button: A suitable spare button is usually sewn onto the care label
Sewing needle: Suitable for the thickness of the material and for the buttonholes
Sewing thread: Matching color and tear-resistant
Thimble: To protect the fingers while sewing
Scissors

1. Measure approx. 50cm of thread. Feed the thread through the eye of the needle until both thread ends are the same length. Knot thread ends.
2. Set button position, guide needle and thread at this position from the left to the right fabric side and back again.

3. Guide the needle to the right side of the fabric and pierce through the first hole of the button. Then pass the needle through the adjacent hole back to the left side of the fabric.
4. Repeat the process several times to sew the button in place.
5. For a 4-hole button: do the same with the other two holes. Sew button on either parallel or crosswise. Use the other buttons for reference.

6. Once the button is pinned, move needle to right side and wrap bar between button and fabric repeatedly.
7. Bring needle to the opposite side, cut thread several inches long, and knot the two resulting thread ends to the fabric. Trim off the excess thread ends.

APPLYING A REPAIR PATCH
WHAT DO I NEED?
Self-adhesive patches: Transparent or color-matching, sufficiently large repair patch. For example, GearAid®Tenacious Tape™ or Kleiber® mend+finish.
Scissors

1. the area to be taped over must be clean and dry. Place the product to be repaired on a smooth surface so that you can work on the hole easily.
2. proceed according to the instructions for use of your repair kit.

3. Cut the patch so that it extends at least 1 cm around the hole to be covered. Round the corners.

4. Remove the repair patch from its carrier paper, apply it to the repair area without wrinkles and press it down.

REMOVE WOOL PILLING
Wool consists of fine, short fibers. Pilling may occur at the ends of the fibers in areas with most friction. These pills can be removed very easily with a pilling razor.
WHAT DO I NEED FOR THIS?
Pilling razor: With a suitable shaving head, depending on the yarn quality.
HOW DO I PROCEED?
1. Set out the part to be treated on a smooth working surface and flatten it carefully.
2. Make sure that the correct shaving head is applied to the fuzz razor.
3. Gently run the razor over the product and remove the excess lumps.
WASH AND CARE
WE CARE FOR OUR CLOTHING
Taking good care for your Garment ist better for the Environment and your wallet.
Washing instructions are usually printed on the white inner label in our garments. These are always based on the most sensitive material component. Please follow the instructions so that your favorite Maloja item lasts for long.
Before washing your garments check the bags, close Velcro as well as zippers and fasten any loose flaps or straps. Turn them inside out and make sure they are separated by color. Important: Products with delicate functional fibers should not be washed together with products with hard components such as zippers or Velcro to avoid thread pulls. It is best to put them in an extra wash bag.
Washing at lower temperatures and longer wash times removes bacteria just as well as washing at higher temperatures. It also saves energy. Unless it is explicitly recommended, such as for down care or to restore the DWR finish, the dryer may not be used.

DETERGENT
Most of our products can be washed with a mild, pollutant-free liquid detergent. For the sake of the environment, make sure that the detergent is biodegradable. For certain materials such as wool, silk or down, you should use special detergents.
FABRIC SOFTENER
We do not recommend the use of fabric softeners for our products. Fabric softeners may contain surfactants that make the fibers unstable, affect breathability, attack the adhesive of the tapes or disable the water repellent finish.
IMPREGNATION AND CARE OF WATERPROOF AND WATER-REPELLENT PRODUCTS
Our waterproof and water-repellent products can be washed in the washing machine on the gentle cycle. The spin cycle should be switched off. Our cembra® weatherproof clothing is treated with a perfluorocarbon-free (PFC-free) finish. This allows water drops to bead off and prevents the material from becoming saturated in wet conditions. To maintain functionality, you should wash your waterproof or water-repellent garments regularly, as sweat and dirt can affect the performance. To activate the durable water-repellent finish, you can put your favorite piece in the dryer at a low temperature after washing, if the washing instructions allow it.
From time to time, you should renew the water-repellent finish by means of a PFC-free spray impregnation. Pump sprays are recommended, as they do not contain any additional propellants. Proceed according to the use instructions of your chosen spray impregnation.
Wash-in impregnation should not be used for our shells, as the impregnation can also get onto the inside or the lining and thus impair sweat transport.
DOWN
Use a special down detergent for your down products. Down garments should be washed on a gentle cycle and tumbled dry.
You can add some tennis balls (clean, but not new to prevent staining) or a large heavy-cotton bath towel in the tumbler to make the damp down, which has been stuck together by washing, nice and puffy again. It will take several dryer cycles until the down is dry and puffy again. Shake the down product between cycles.
Also note that you should not store your down jacket compressed, but it's better to hang or lie airy.
If your down jacket gets wet while hiking or ski touring, it is best to dry it as described above.

PRIMALOFT AND G-LOFT
Our padded products can be machine washed on gentle cycle. To help the insulation material puff up again, you can dry your Primaloft or G-Loft product lying on the drying rack and shake it up every now and then.
WOOL
In many cases, just airing or freezing wool products can eliminate unpleasant odors and bacteria. If this is not enough, woolen clothing can also be washed. Follow the care instructions when doing so. Some wool products are blended with other fibers or specially treated to make them easier to care for to be machine washed on a gentle cycle. Other wool products must be washed by hand.
MACHINE WASH
Make sure that your detergent does not contain enzymes. The enzyme protease affects the wool fibers and leads to holes in your garments in the long run. Wash your wool products on the gentle cycle and make sure they are not spin dried.
For most garments, it is advisable to dry them flat. For example, on a clothes horse with a towel as a base. Pull your piece into shape while it is still wet.
HAND WASHING
Make sure your detergent does not contain enzymes. The enzyme protease affects wool fibers and will cause holes in your garments in the long run.
Avoid excessive squeezing, rubbing, pulling and wringing. This can cause your product to felt in some areas.
For most garments, it is advisable to dry them flat. For example, on a clothes horse with a towel as a base. Pull your piece into shape while it is still wet.

SYNTHETIC FIBERS: POLYESTER, NYLON, SPANDEX
Functional clothing made of polyester or nylon with or without spandex can be machine washed on the gentle cycle. For a gentle wash of sensitive functional fibers and to avoid microplastics in the wastewater, a special wash bag can be used, see here:
