A success that never has been a fluke

Just two years ago, a young talent named Campbell Wright competed for New Zealand in the Junior World Championships in biathlon. A classic underdog role. In the end, it was the gold medal - and the start of a career that was to reach a new peak this weekend: two silver medals at the IBU World Championships in Lenzerheide.

Some TV presenter was amazed when the USA flag flew over the podium twice this weekend. Silver medal in the 10 km sprint and in the 12.5 km pursuit. Campbell Wright only had to admit defeat to one person this weekend - biathlon legend Johannes Thingnes Bø. With an incredible running performance and a completely flawless shooting, the native New Zealander finished 28 seconds behind the Norwegian and ahead of the Frenchman Quentin Fillon Maillet on Saturday - already a sensation at this point and a fantastic starting position for the pursuit. After only one mistake in the first shooting, Campbell Wright also remained clear this time and fought a thrilling duel with Bø. The original 28-second gap even melted to just 8 seconds. The second silver medal in just one weekend - and at the age of just 22. Campbell's joking explanation for the second victory: “I had to prove that it wasn't a fluke.”

When Maloja began supporting the US biathletes' team in 2018, this kind of success was still a long way off. It was the team's values and attitude that suited the brand perfectly, then as now. Maloja was able to identify well with the role of the likeable underdog and a partnership of equals was formed in which the sporting achievements were secondary for Maloja as a sponsor. Success was not measured in advertising time during a TV broadcast, but in the special moments that Maloja was able to experience together with the team. We are particularly pleased for the entire US Biathlon team that this has now been accompanied by sporting success.

They work hard day and night to lay the foundations for top performances like these. Ski technicians. Trainers. Coaches. The entire organizational apparatus. They all play an important part in Campbell Wright's historic success.

The entire Maloja family congratulates Campbell and the whole team wholeheartedly on this truly exceptional weekend.
